Ewha Univ. Campus Complex
Information
The Ewha Womans University Campus Center project was initiated to commemorate the university’s 120th anniversary and to establish a large-scale educational and cultural complex. Designed by Dominique Perrault and completed in April 2008, the new campus center accommodates over 20,000 people and serves as a landmark of innovation in campus architecture.
The Ewha Campus Center, consisting of six underground levels and one above-ground floor, accommodates a diverse range of facilities such as libraries, lecture halls, student activity spaces, and cultural and welfare amenities. The gently sloping promenade, referred to as “the Valley,” serves as the main axis of the campus, seamlessly linking the above-ground and subterranean spaces while integrating the Campus Center with the surrounding university landscape.
The facing façades along the Valley allow natural light to penetrate deep into the interior, while the vertical fins of the curtain wall evoke the sensation of standing within a cascade of light, achieving a harmonious integration between architecture and the site’s natural terrain.
