AFoCO Regional Education and Training Center (RETC)
Information
The Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) is an international organization consisting of ten member countries in the ASEAN region, led by the Republic of Korea. It promotes cooperative projects aimed at addressing climate change, forest greening, and restoration across Asia. Since its establishment stage in 2012 through to its current operational phase, AFoCO has been supported and coordinated by the Korea Forest Service, with Korea serving as the central hub of its activities.
The organization’s main objectives include preventing desertification, restoring degraded forest ecosystems, mitigating forest-related disasters, promoting sustainable forest use and management, building forest management capacity, facilitating technology transfer, and fostering research and development among member countries. As its first major initiative, AFoCO established the Regional Education and Training Center (RETC) in Hmawbi, Yangon, Myanmar, which serves as a base for forest conservation, restoration, technology dissemination, and research activities—solidifying the organization’s founding mission.
Despite the challenges of operating in an unfamiliar overseas environment, BAUM CM successfully led the design and construction management (CM) of the RETC project in Myanmar.
The firm managed all stages of the project, from planning, procurement, and installation of FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) to providing operational manuals and maintenance training for the future facility operators, thereby completing a comprehensive and successful CM service throughout the entire project lifecycle.
