COEX Mall Remodeling
Information
Since its opening in 2000, COEX Mall has become one of Seoul’s most iconic landmarks, attracting both domestic visitors and international tourists.
However, as the facilities aged and new competing complexes emerged nearby, both visitor numbers and sales began to stagnate, while the drawing power of key anchor tenants such as Megabox and the Aquarium gradually weakened. Moreover, evolving retail trends toward integrated malls that offer shopping, leisure, and cultural experiences—together with the rapid growth of global SPA brands—drove the need for larger and more modern retail spaces.
Through the COEX Mall Remodeling Project, the mall strengthened its role as a public and cultural hub, enhancing accessibility by connecting directly to Subway Line 9, while establishing a distinctive and competitive commercial space. The project revitalized the aging infrastructure, implemented a creative merchandising (MD) strategy to boost profitability, and redefined COEX’s landmark identity and brand image. As a result, COEX Mall reclaimed its status as Korea’s premier mixed-use retail destination, emerging as a world-class complex shopping mall that leads global retail and lifestyle trends.
